Overview

The Power of Girlhood is a leadership development organization founded in 2011 to serve adolescent girls (13-18) in metro Detroit move through the process of girlhood. Its focus is to develop young women psychologically, socially, emotionally, and physically to become engaged and competent thriving citizens throughout their communities. The Power of Girlhood hosts, and sponsors social, academic, and cultural events and activities to empower young women to make positive, sound decisions toward promising futures. POG provides on-site mentorship for schools, detention centers, small groups, and faith-based institutions. It is devoted to developing participants through planning and facilitating social enrichment activities designed to fulfill the organization’s purpose by empowering, educating, and providing opportunities for social, educational, and cultural development among adolescent females. Members from the college and career planning, health and wellness, entrepreneurship, and life skills sectors offer their time and skills to continue the process. The Board, committee members, and volunteer mentors present activities that include: facilitating small groups, developing a calendar of events for social outings and fundraising, and planning and implementing service-learning initiatives within the community.
