Overview

FMFI-S is the leading private-sector microfinance provider in Syria. Originally established in 2003 as a microfinance programme, FMFI-S completed its transition to a deposit-taking institution in October 2008, to be the first licensed microfinance institution that operates in Syria. FMFI-S provides financial service to people in 8 governorates (Damascus, Sweida, Hama, Lattakia, Tartus, Rural Damascus, Aleppo, and Homs) through 16 branches. FMFI-S is one of AKDN initiatives in Syria, which includes number of programs and NGOs which aim to improve the quality of life and create new opportunities to the poor, and enhances the economic, social, and cultural development in Syria and other 36 countries worldwide, in addition to participating in the socio-economic development process.
