Overview

What is Sweet Eid? Sweet Eid is a pioneering, not-for-profit, community project initiated by a group of young British professionals. The idea behind Sweet Eid is to make Eid, a festival celebrated by over 1.6 billion Muslims from across the world, engaging and memorable for children and their families. How did Sweet Eid start? Eid is a festival celebrated around the world, but the festivities vary depending on where you are in the world. As a young child, one of our co-founders spent his early years in the United Arab Emirates. He recalled how Eid was the day on the calendar he looked forward to the most. He would get an abundance of sweets, gifts and money, attend events catered to children and their families and enjoy himself. It was memorable, enjoyable and fun! This sparked a discussion amongst a group of friends: what can we do to make children look forward to Eid in the UK in a similar manner? How can we replicate the excitement and ‘buzz’ that children experience in majority-Muslim countries, where Eid is a festival and celebration? This inspired us to establish Sweet Eid. How does it work? On the day of Eid, we distribute sweet gift bags, balloons (modelled into hats, swords, flowers and more) and Eid cards outside mosques, parks and community centres – bringing smiles to the faces of thousands of children! The great thing about Sweet Eid is that it can easily be set up in any mosque, park or community centre – its simplicity and creativity is at the heart of our success. What is our vision? Through Sweet Eid, our vision is to see the peace, love and spirit of Eid spread through to communities across the UK and beyond. We believe this project has truly global reach and can bring a smile to millions of children across the globe. As such, Sweet Eid is always looking at opportunities to evolve and expand with the support of our partners.
