Overview

Making disciples of Jesus through Clean Water, Education, and Mentorship. SuNica was founded in 2009 by Alan, Josh, and Betty to provide school supplies to disadvantaged children in a Nicaraguan slum community named El Limonal. Then in 2013, Josh and Betty - now happily married! - relocated to Nicaragua and began our Discipleship and Education program in that same community, while Alan stayed behind in the United States to fund the mission. Fast forward to 2017, where we've been blessed with some incredible, tangible success; -SuNica's team has grown from 3 people in 2013 to a staff of 26 in Nicaragua (mostly Nicaraguans) and 3 in the United States. -The Discipleship and Education program started out serving 40 kids in El Limonal, and has expanded to reach almost 200 children in three different communities every week. Children are provided positive role models, encouraged through tough times at home or school, and guided in how to live as a follower of Jesus in their communities. -SuNica funded a sustainable water project in El Porvenir and provided leadership training that empowered the citizens to form a Water and Sanitation Committee, the first government body in the village. The Committee coordinated the construction efforts, and now manages and maintains the completed system. The completed project now provides 550+ people with clean water piped directly to their homes. -Another SuNica water project is under construction right now in San Carlos, with expected completion in early 2018. -In mid-2018, SuNica will finish construction on a Community Center in El Limonal, providing the children of this community a safe place to learn and grow. There's lots more work to be done, and lots more planned as we work to spread the Gospel in Nicaragua and help Nicaraguans Thrive!
