Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited (“SMTB”) is a Japanese banking corporation licensed under Japanese law to engage in trust and banking business. It was created in April 2012 following the merger of two major financial Japanese institutions, The Sumitomo Trust and Banking Group and Chuo Mitsui Trust Group. It is primarily engaged in the medium and long-term financing of industry together with ordinary commercial banking business. SMTB has considerable expertise in the management of pension trust funds, portfolio securities and real estate, providing services in all of those fields to both individual and corporate clients. SMTB is engaged in a wide range of international banking activities including foreign exchange and derivative transactions, foreign trade financing, management of and participation in international syndicated loans and private placement in Japan of foreign bonds as well as investment in foreign securities. SMTB, London Branch and its wholly owned UK subsidiary, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust International Limited are authorised and regulated in the conduct of their business by the Financial Conduct Authority (the FCA) under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, including the acceptance of deposits in the UK and qualifying deposits are covered by the UK Deposit Protection Scheme. In London SMTB London Branch business involvements are in the fields of European Corporate Lending, Japanese Corporate Lending, Commercial Bond Trading and Dealing on the foreign currency markets in currencies and derivatives. The emphasis is on relationship building and taking a medium to long-term view of and partnership with, business counter parties and clients. SMTB carries out international business through overseas Branches in London, New York, Singapore and Shanghai; representative offices in Seoul, Beijing, Jakarta and Bangkok and wholly owned subsidiaries in London, New York, Luxembourg and Hong Kong.
