Study Higher (A Uni Connect Partnership)

Higher Education

Overview

Study Higher is led by Oxford Brookes University in a partnership with Oxford University, Reading University and Buckinghamshire New University. Our network of higher education institutions work together to deliver collaborative, impartial, and targeted outreach initiatives to young people in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Swindon to inform them about future educational opportunities. Study Higher is funded by The Office for Students as part of the Uni Connect programme which aims to promote social mobility by encouraging access to higher education for young people from underrepresented backgrounds. To increase participation in higher education by learners from particular target areas, we work closely with schools, colleges, community groups, local councils and other stakeholders to deliver inspirational and informative activities and events. We work with young people where there are: - Low levels of participation in higher education overall - A ‘gap’ in higher education participation – i.e. participation in higher education is lower than would be expected given GCSE attainment levels. -Students who are young carers, care experienced or from families in the Armed Forces. Some examples of our outreach programmes for young people include: -1:1 or group mentoring -University campus visits and activity days -In-school workshops covering topics such as; What is Higher education and is it for me?, Student finance and budgeting, Alternate pathways etc
