Overview

The Stitching Science project is funded by the Gurdon Institute, part of the University of Cambridge, and has been developed by former Brand Lab PhD student Stephanie Norwood. We plan to engage crafters in the local area through a series of crochet workshops. Participants can create a detailed crochet cell including sub-cellular structures and can discuss the different parts of the cell with scientists as they work. We also attend festivals to share our passion for science and craft with others! Our aims are: - To create an informal environment for scientists to interact with local communities and learn a new craft - To disseminate information about research projects at the Gurdon Institute to the local community and beyond - To increase public trust in science and research by meeting with scientists in an informal setting Patterns and instructions for the crochet cell will be available for free download online, along with information about the part of a cell, and current related research at the Gurdon Institute.
