Overview

Speranza22 has an amazing story and in our short history we have achieved some incredible things both on and off the pitch. The story of Speranza22 is something that everyone picks up on through press coverage and via our social media channels. Whilst the initial reason for setting up Speranza22 is a tragic one we were determined to do some good in Marco’s memory. We aim to keep Marco’s legacy alive by ensuring we play good rugby whilst raising awareness and money for, various good causes. The team have raised in excess of £35,000 for various charities and good causes to date. Players that have pulled on the Speranza22 jersey have gone on to represent their country and secure professional contracts including winning Olympic gold and silver medals at the Tokyo Olympics. Our players have also gained international honours playing for England, Germany, Jamaica, New Zealand, Fiji and Romania. We regularly have international sevens players and some of the best academy players representing Speranza22. However, whilst exceptional rugby players are asked to represent us, the most important aspect of selection is the players character; talented rugby players but even better people! We have unique selection criteria in that we will only select players who knew Marco or who know someone who has played for Speranza22. This enables us not only to select quality rugby players but more importantly top people! In total over 120 players have represent Speranza22 from countries including Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, Germany, Jamaica, Ireland, New Zealand, Romania, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Tonga and the USA all who are linked back to Marco! Whatever happens, we continue to try and play the very best sevens rugby we can but always with a big smile on our face just how Marco did! Our key philosophy - ‘just let the boys play’!
