Speculative Architecture

Overview

Speculative Architecture is a multi-disciplinary studio practice, led by Dirk Yates, that specialises in the design and delivery of public buildings and integrated artworks. We have developed projects with institutional organisations including the Queensland Government (PQC Level 3), Brisbane City Council, Museum of Brisbane, Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office, Home of the Arts Gold Coast, and the Institute of Modern Art. The practice enjoys collaboratively developing designs with clients to explore their ideas and enhance opportunities for enjoyment beyond simple building functions. We have strong experience in the design of campus master plans, feasibility studies, libraries, classrooms, staff and student learning centres, cafeterias, laboratories, commercial offices, artworks, art galleries, exhibition design, furniture, and landscapes. Our interest in contributing to the community is to produce venues that are both distinctive and ambitious in achieving the goals of clients and community groups. The success of this agenda has been evidenced through client feedback in celebrating the successful use of these spaces, recognition through awards, and representation in printed media.
