Non-profit Organizations

Overview

MISSION Inspired by Gospel values, we grow spiritually through person to person service to all in need in our community. Our actions promote the dignity of the person, alleviate suffering and distress, while addressing the conditions that cause them through systemic change. ABOUT The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization serving the Greater Houston area since 1871. We are part of a national organization linked by the common mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We are referred to as the Galveston-Houston Archdiocesan Council and are composed of 59 parish-based groups called Conferences. These independent groups have between 5 to 100+ volunteers known as Vincentians. They put their faith in action by responding to the needs of people in their local community. With the support of the Council, the Conferences carry out our Home Visit Ministry - a unique program where our Vincentians visit our friends in need in their homes. Through the visit, Vincentians evaluate the need of our friends and provide them with clothing or furniture vouchers known as our Voucher Ministry. Our Voucher Ministry allows our friends in need to redeem at no cost, clothing and furniture from one of our two resale shops. The Society also has a centralized 50,000 square foot facility known as the Vincentian Services Center (VSC) The VSC operates our Food Network Ministry,(made up of 29 Food Pantries), one of our two Resale Shops, and serves as a Disaster Relief Center. The VSC also serves as a large volunteer center from where numerous good samaritan volunteers can help us sort clothing donations or prepare food bags for our Food Fair events held 3 times per month.
