Overview

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) tend to struggle with social skills and daily tasks. They find social skills challenging, miss out on social cues and lose their temper with ease. As a result, many of them suffer from anxiety, depression, stress, bullying, and avoid social interactions. For a child with ASD to overcome these issues, there is a need for repeated exposure and practice of real-life scenarios. Today, however, the only methods available for learning and practicing social behavior patterns are done in theory alone and in a setting that does not replicate genuine environments and interactions. Simulars is a Virtual Reality based platform for social training that exposes children with ASD to real-life situations in a fun and engaging way. The VR platform incorporates the knowledge of experts in the field of ASD research and treatment, together with a gamified experience, creating real-life scenarios that are custom made for the child’s needs. The VR platform is coupled with a compatible monitoring app, which provides the therapist with full control over the treatment according to the child's individual capabilities. The platform gathers and analyses data in regards to the sessions. Thus, the child’s progression can be tracked and suitable future treatments can be suggested. The platform enables children with ASD to practice anywhere, be it their homes, schools, or therapists’ clinics.
