The Florida Atlantic University chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers was originally founded in August 1997 by Manuel Borge. After a period of growth and decline, a new wave of students revamped the chapter in 2005 and has since seen large growth, especially over the past few years. This year marks the chapters 22nd anniversary, and our organization has grown to over 100 members strong, with many members enjoying the benefits of being a part of the SHPE Familia at large, including mentorships, internships, traveling, networking, and having fun with other brilliantly minded people. As we push on towards greater success, we will continue to pass on the torch as leaders in the STEM community by empowering our youth, encouraging our students, and honoring the professionals that paved the way before us. Leadership and professional development are key elements for SHPE. We encourage all of our members to become leaders through the different executive and chair positions within the organization. Moreover, the chapter brings in industry professionals from nearby companies to provide workshops and discussion panels on issues such as the different leadership styles, how to write an award-winning resume, interviewing tips and techniques, and what companies expect out of an entry-level engineer. Our chapter also participates in the SHPE National Conference and the Regional Leadership Development Conference held every year. We host events such as the annual LeaderSHPE conference on our campus to ensure our members are equipped for these conferences in the best way possible. These tools together allow our members to be professionally prepared for their upcoming careers. FAU SHPE is committed to providing the industry with exceptional leaders and professionals for the present and the future.
