Overview

SheGoesTech is an initiative started in Kenya in 2016 with the aim of encouraging girls to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Different reports show that women are involved more in soft skills and shun the hard skills. Whereas for a professional to access the deciding table, they are required to have solid hard skills. It therefore is important for ladies to be deliberate about growing their hard skills and indulging in STEM where most innovations begin. We encourage the girls by providing forums where students and younger STEM professionals can access the experienced STEM professional for purposes of mentorship, coaching or to have a reference role model. Research shows that where girls are at an early age exposed to the possibilities within Science and Mathematics, and where the ladies identify with role models, the likelihood of having them pursue and remain in STEM careers greatly improves.
