Overview
Save the Children has worked in Iraq since 1991. We are one of the largest international NGOs responding to humanitarian, recovery and development needs of children and their families. We operate integrated child focused programmes across Ninewah, Dohuk, Kirkuk, Kalar and Diyala. Through direct delivery, in partnership with communities, NGOs, and local government bodies, and through coalitions, we deliver assistance to those most in need - including Iraqis who have been internally displaced, returnees and host communities, and Syrian refugees in Iraq. We are implementing programmes in child protection, including providing psychosocial support activities that help children to re-establish a sense of safety, create social connections, regain a sense of control and develop a sense of hope. These are key factors associated with positive wellbeing and recovery. Our education programme aims to increase vulnerable children’s access to quality early childhood education, basic formal and non-formal education, and contribute to education system strengthening.
