Overview

The Saudi Medical Journal for Students, (SMJS), the official journal of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tabuk, is the first SMJ in the Gulf region. It is part of the SMJS-MET publications from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tabuk. The other publication is MedEdu Tabuk (MET), a newsletter with over 50,000 subscribers. SMJS publishes biannually original (original research papers, review articles can case reports) and non-original (feature/perspective articles, editorials, opinions, and reviews) contributions from health care students (Medicine, Pharmacy, Applied Medical Science, Biological Sciences). The journal was established in 2019 under the patronage of Dr. Marai M. Alamri, Dean of Medicine, and Dr. Md. Tanveer Raza, Editor-in-Chief. SMJS is recognized by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) for student publications. SMJS is a stand-alone independent entity, free from influence, ensuring transparency and quality. The editorial decision at SMJS is with the editorial board. Undergraduate students from health care faculties across the Kingdom and Gulf region constitute the Editorial board. The Editors are involved in the publication process, including manuscript submission, communicating with authors and reviewers, peer-review process, and publication of accepted manuscripts. Expert reviewers peer-review manuscripts to ensure high quality, and the Editors act as shadow reviewers, thus gaining necessary training in scientific communication and critical appraisal. MedEdu Tabuk (MET), the official newsletter of FoM-UT, is published electronically weekly during the academic year, acts as an avenue of expression, publishing the wide range of interests of all Faculty and students and the local community. It was first published in 2016, and in five years, a total of 96 issues of MET has been published, reaching out to more than 50,000 subscribers.
