Overview
The St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, also known as Akwesasne in Mohawk language, is a federally recognized Mohawk Indian reservation located in Franklin County, New York, United States. The reservation is home to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and has a population of 3,288 as per the 2010 census. It sits adjacent to the Akwesasne reserve in Ontario and Quebec, Canada, separated by the St. Lawrence River. Despite being divided by an international border, the Mohawk people consider the entire community to be one unit and have the right to freely travel across the border.
