Rotary's Heart in the Lower North island. From the mouth of the Mokau River on the West Coast, through to Ruapehu, to Cape Turnagain on the East Coast our voluntary organisation spans the Lower North Island working in our communities to drive positive social change, both large and small. Community Work 9940 is represented by nearly 50 Clubs all working in their community to make positive social change. We understand the "Why" we need to do something, that is instinctive and in our DNA, what drives us as an organisation is the "What" and "How": - What can we do to help our communities? - How best do we do this? Each of Clubs represent different communities in the Lower North Island and thus their community work will differ. Some of our clubs are dedicated particularly toward environmental work and help plant trees and protect our environment; some are dedicated to community causes in their specific area and some collaborate and work together towards larger projects such as the Wellington Children's Hospital and our vaccination programme in the Pacific - Give Every Child A Future - helping to vaccinate 100,000 children in the Pacific Islands. Leadership Within our organisation and within our membership is leadership. Many of our members are current, up-and-coming or retired leaders in their respective fields. This includes current and former politicians and diplomats, entrepreneurs, CEOs and directors, accountants, and lawyers - you name it. Together as an organisation we use that leadership and harness our skills to do good. This leadership can be seen in all our projects, and in some of our projects - such as End Polio Now - this leadership is lauded the world over. Networking Working with Rotary gives you the opportunity not only to reach out to our members in 9940 (1,300 strong) but also to reach out, and befriend members in NZ and internationally. With 1.2 million members worldwide this provides endless opportunities.
