Overview

Remedium is developing a new carbon capture technology, carbon capture battery. Carbon capture battery operates by capturing carbon dioxide from high emitting industries and monetizes the variation in cost of electricity to drive down the cost of carbon capture. Capturing a tonne of CO2 with current technologies costs between $50-100. With the carbon capture battery, not only the cost is reduced, but our clients can potentially profit $10-20 per tonne of carbon dioxide captured. This would not have been possible without the combination of our novel process and patent-pending sorbent materials that can capture CO2 and store electricity at the same time. The second advantage of this technology is that it provides storage capability to the grid enabling wider renewable energy implementation. In principle, high CO2 emitting industries such as cement and steel producers not only eliminate their CO2 emission, but also become an electricity storage solution for the grid to store excess renewable energy. Our patent-pending material is able to capture CO2 three times more efficiently than conventional amine systems. Our technology is versatile and can be applied to a wide range of hard-to-abate industries including cement and steel. In addition to post-combustion capture, our sorbent materials can be used in the sorption enhanced reforming (SER) process for blue hydrogen production. Unlike conventional amine systems where disposal of degraded amines is a challenge, spent sorbents from our process can be used as feed for clinker production in the cement industry, introducing additional revenue streams.
