Overview
The Refugee Women's Centre is an organisation working to provide close support to displaced women and family units in Northern France. We are a team of up to 10 volunteers. Whilst we used to have a day centre, the camp where it was located burnt down three years ago and we are now completely mobile. By being present in the camps on a daily basis, and by providing essential items, volunteers of the Refugee Women’s Centre create a link of trust with women and families we support. This enables us to become the main point of referral for them. We then redirect or accompany women and families to specialised services such as legal advice and medical care. We work as part of a strong network which includes charities, independent volunteers, city halls, regional and sub-regional authorities, governmental organisations, public services and sometimes private companies. We work with a great diversity of actors, as we believe that large-scale cooperation is required for systemic change to happen.
