The Comuá Network is a space that brings together thematic, community funds and community foundations, independent donor organizations (grantmakers), which mobilize resources from diverse sources to support groups, collectives, movements and civil society organizations that work in the fields of socio-environmental justice, human rights human rights and community development. Supporting civil society initiatives led by political minorities with financial resources is a key strategy for the promotion and construction of agendas aimed at the recognition and defense of rights, and therefore, for the strengthening of Brazilian democracy. The Network seeks to strengthen its members' capacity for joint action by enhancing their role in social transformation processes, in advocacy actions, giving visibility to their actions both in the field of philanthropy and in the public sphere. The Comuá Network was created in 2012, under the name of Independent Funds for Social Justice Network (name changed in 2017 to Brazilian Philanthropy Network for Social Justice, by the Baobá, ELAS+ Doar para Transformar, Fundo Brasil Fundo Casa Socioambiental, Instituto Comunitário Grande Florianópolis (ICOM), BrazilFoundation, Instituto Rio and Instituto Baixada. On June 1, 2023, Comuá was officially founded in one of the stages of its formalization process that began in 2022, the year in which the Network completed 10 years of operation. The formal founding of the Network included Baobá - Fundo para equidade racial, BrazilFoundation, Casa Fluminense, Elas+ Doar para Transformar, Fundo Agbara, Fundo Brasil, Fundo Brasileiro de Educação Ambiental (FunBEA), Fundo Casa Socioambiental, Fundo Positivo, Instituto Baixada, Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS), Instituto Comunitário Grande Florianópolis (ICOM), Instituto Procomum, Instituto Sociedade, População e Natureza (ISPN), Redes da Maré and Tabôa - Fortalecimento comunitário.
