Overview

We address the issue of recidivism in the United Kingdom by breaking the cycle of reoffending while simultaneously establishing a new cycle that offers free education opportunities to refugees residing in UNHCR camps. A significant correlation exists between recidivism rates in the UK and the challenges offenders encounter in securing suitable employment and housing. Despite access to education, skills, and training within UK prisons, individuals often face external barriers upon release, including housing instability and the burden of a criminal record. Conversely, there is a notable deficiency in education and skills training programs within refugee camps globally—a void that Re-Aid endeavors to fill. Our mission revolves around bridging the gap between the skills and training provided within UK prisons and the limited access to such educational opportunities in refugee camps. This initiative aims to enhance life prospects for both demographics. For low-risk offenders, participation represents not only a chance to gain exposure to a wholly different way of life and a profound shift in perspective during their visit to a UNHCR camp but also an entry point into full-time employment and supported accommodation upon their return, reinforcing the newly established cycle. Simultaneously, refugees benefit from crucial access to education and training that can significantly improve their prospects for a brighter future. This includes enhancements in literacy, numeracy, construction, and agricultural skills.
