Overview

Public Allies Central Florida is one of 22 sites around the country making up the national AmeriCorps program, Public Allies, which has a mission to advance social justice and equity by engaging and activating the leadership of young people. The Public Allies Central Florida site has been in operation since 2010, with Embrace Families Solutions Inc. serving as local operating partner. Public Allies seeks to identify diverse young adults and prepare them for leadership positions, ultimately strengthening the community. "Allies” complete a ten-month, paid apprenticeship with a local non-profit, educational or civic organization, where they support their host site in expanding its ability to meet its own mission/goals. During the apprenticeship, the Allies meet regularly as a cohort with their Program Managers to complete a rigorous leadership training curriculum. Each Ally completes 1,700 hours of service during the ten-month period.
