Overview

Mission: Providence (PVD) Promise promotes high educational aspirations and more equitable opportunities for Providence Public School students by advocating for college savings accounts and family engagement, increasing financial literacy, and reducing the financial burden of higher education. Key Program Features: -Early Enrollment: Parents/guardians enroll their children as early as birth. -College Savings: Upon enrollment, families open a 529 College Savings Account for each child and contribute an average of 1% of their income. PVD Promise provides an initial contribution of $100 to each child’s account, and also provides opportunities through its Early Scholarship Program for both families and children to earn additional incentives to build their college savings by achieving certain goals or participating in one many qualified activities. -Family and Youth Engagement Programs: PVD Promise facilitates ongoing Family and Youth Programming through events, workshops, meetings, resource sharing around college preparation, access, financial literacy, family empowerment, advocacy and more. Workshops take place at least four times per month, as well as monthly Parent Council and Youth Council meetings. Additionally, PVD Promise facilitates a Mentorship Program for its middle and high school students, through which students are matched with mentors from local colleges and universities. -Reducing the Financial Burden: PVD Promise works with each student and their family to identify the higher education choices that best fit the needs and goals of each child and to identify financial aid opportunities.
