Overview

Project Srijan is an initiative by the students of the Rotaract Club of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi. We aim to bridge the gap between the underprivileged informal sector of e-waste recycling, the undiscovered formal sector of e-waste recycling, and the unaware public. India is the fourth largest producer of e-waste in the world, generating 40 million tonnes of e-waste annually. A majority of it is treated in an improper manner causing various environmental, economic and health hazards. Project Srijan bloomed out of the need to disrupt the informal and unsafe disposal of e-waste being generated domestically and commercially. Thus, we create awareness among the public regarding e-waste management, collect e-waste from households and educational institutions and channelize it into the formal sector of recycling for its eco-friendly treatment, to ensure a safer tomorrow. Meanwhile, we try to safeguard the socio-economic interests of the informal workers of this industry, provide them with the safety gear required to safely operate in this field and ensure that they receive the recognition that they deserve. Everyday we work towards this cause with the belief that there will be a day when every person disposes of e-waste responsibly and every waste worker is empowered and holds his head high.
