Process Feedback

Overview

Process Feedback is a tool for visualizing the journey of a writing task. Summarizing the journey with interactive and insightful data visualizations, it helps us gain a deeper understanding of our writing process. Educators can use the tool to understand their students’ writing process, style, and habits and provide constructive feedback. More broadly, anyone can also use it to analyze their writing process. Process Feedback also works for computer programming tasks. It is free, does not require a login or sign-up, and respects a user's privacy. Regardless of whether we write freely or AI-assisted, process-aware writing can enhance our metacognition and self-awareness. In educational settings, shifting the focus from written outcomes to the process itself also addresses the issue of over-reliance on chatbots and can help put chatbots in their place. History: Invented by Dr. Badri Adhikari at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the first version was developed with the help of several students and collaborators and launched in April 2023. Vision: To educate all learners and educators worldwide about process-aware teaching and learning and empower them with computational tools. Mission: To build and serve accessible and privacy-respectful tools for process-aware teaching and learning. Why use Process Feedback? While we are all excited about the potential of newly emerging chatbots, as parents, educators, and learners, we are also concerned. Could we gradually forget to create and think independently? After all, language is the operating system of our minds and societies. As a potential solution, we developed Process Feedback. It's a tool that makes writing fun and can help you become a more creative thinker and improve metacognition. The website doesn't track you or collect any personal data, and there is no sign-up or login required. You can use it with confidence, knowing that your privacy is protected.
