Overview

Trusted Physician Hosting Culturally Relevant Talk Show Primary Care is a TV talk show where medical conditions relevant to the health and care of African Americans are examined and discussed by host Dr. Lonnie Joe, Jr and his guests. The program educates viewers by increasing their awareness and understanding of manageable and often-times preventable conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer and stroke. It’s the only series on public television solely dedicated to improving Black health. Primary Care also confronts the issues that adversely affect the health of African Americans -- access to care, affordable care, racism, mental illness, as well as many of the social, cultural and economic factors that tend to get overlooked. All through the eyes of primary care medicine. As the host of Primary Care, Dr. Joe leads audiences to a greater understanding of the health care needs of African Americans and vulnerable populations. His medical training and advocacy for physicians and patients on the local and national level allow him to bring a fresh perspective to the program to better educate and inform viewers. Primary Care is developing an audience of healthcare providers who use the series to help educate their patients. The way the program approaches the issues of health and health care make it engaging and relevant to both viewers and physicians.
