Non-profit Organizations

Overview

The Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA) is a regional organization of port authorities and maritime organizations established in July 1973 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). It seeks to promote and nurture best practices among member ports by creating an enabling environment for exchange of information and capacity building to contribute to the economic development of the region. The Association currently has 20 members. Its vision is to be a center of excellence in regional integration in transforming our ports into global competitive platforms for international trade. It also assists members to modernize their systems in a bid to enhance productivity and service delivery. Further, it also creates and maintains relations with other development partners, regional/sub-regional, international organizations and transport authorities through mutual projects and studies in matters beneficial to members. It also facilitates implementation of International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conventions and programs. PMAESA has a global outreach strategy, in which members are represented in relevant regional/sub-regional and international organizations.
