Overview

Plovr Inc., a Quebec business corporation operating with support from the McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship, has a patent-pending carbon capture technology that creates a carbon loop between steel and calcination industries. In other words, we turn CO2 from an externality to a commodity. Magnesium oxide from calcination plants is a key entrant conditioner and refractory material for steel plant blast oxygen furnaces, while calcination plants require magnesium carbonate to operate. Our technology reacts magnesium hydroxide to create magnesium carbonate as a by-product, thus capturing CO2, providing magnesium carbonate to calcination plants, and opening a sustainable, convenient resource pool of magnesium hydroxide to steel plants. Carbon is trapped, reduced, and reused in a continuous loop that benefits all organizations involved. Through our use of sustainable sorbents and flue-gas reactions, we create enough margin on the re-sale of magnesium carbonate to pay back all contracted organizations, creating profitable carbon capture. All the while, we create a buffer on carbon emission allowances for steel and calcination plants, thus safely alleviating significant monetary and operational pressure from federal governments and boosting ESG ratings for these organizations.
