Carnegie Foundation - Peace Palace

Non-profit Organization Management

Overview

The Peace Palace is the global icon of Peace and Justice. Here, people work towards a more safe, peaceful and just world on a daily basis. Peace through justice, that is what the Peace Palace stands for. The Carnegie Foundation is the owner and administrator of the Peace Palace. The building houses the International Court of Justice of the United Nations, the Permanent Court of Arbitration and The Hague Academy for International Law. The Carnegie Foundation facilitates these organizations in their work. Apart from that, the Carnegie Foundations manages the Peace Palace Library, that has the largest collection of literature in the world on topics relating to international peace and justice. The Peace Palace is more than a building, it also has the function of stimulating and facilitating discussion and dialogue on important issues concerning peace and justice. This is another task and aim of the Carnegie Foundation. Very regularly, events and conferences on topics relating to peace and justice are held at the Peace Palace. These vary from discussions, to specific congresses and gatherings on a high political level. As often as possible, the Peace Palace opens its doors to the public. The Visitors Centre offers visitors a good introduction on the history of the Peace Palace and the juridical institutions that are housed in the building, through an impressive movie and an interesting exposition. Regularly, guided tours through the Peace Palace or its gardens are offered. More information on visiting can be found on www.peacepalace.org.
