Overview

The Pasifika Film Fest (PFF) showcases the art of Pacific storytelling through film while also working to inspire Pasifika writers, directors and actors to explore links to their culture. Since 2013 PFF has grown from a small community based festival running out of a repurposed factory in Marrickville; to an international, multi-city event. PFF network at a grass-roots level with a broad cross-section of Pasifika community organisations and persons including sporting teams, dance groups, youth organisations, fashion labels, small Pasifika-run businesses, community leaders, radio stations, celebrities and so on. PFF is not just a film festival, it’s an experience which extends beyond the screen. We provide opportunities for collaboration and exposure for a diverse range of groups and organisations within the community. Importantly, we aim to foster recognition of and pride in the skills, talents and achievements that often go unheralded in Pacific Islander & Maori communities. Future projects: PFF is developing a model to travel the festival around the Pacific and to other international locations by developing relationships with relevant stakeholders at a global level. PFF is committed to the development of opportunities for Pasifika filmmakers and creatives to become involved in the production of their own stories through film and script-writing workshops, internships and other related projects such as PITCH PLEEZ (launched at PFF 2016) and the PFF 48 Hour Film Challenge (launched at PFF 2018). We are committed to creating discussion around cultural identity and the modern-day issues that Pasifika cultures face. We move beyond the stereotype to source and showcase stories that audiences can identify with, in which they can both recognise themselves and in which they feel represented. This is powerful.
