Overview

The Department of Paint Technology was established in 1964. In 1991 the course was upgraded to B. Tech. 4-year degree course after 10+2. The Department has built up a comprehensive research infrastructure with top-notch facilities for carrying out cutting-edge teaching and research. Constant efforts are being put up to maintain the high standards of this department to be ranked as one of the best in India. The department of paint technology aspires to achieve excellence in teaching-learning, research, and innovation in Paint and allied areas. Professor PK. Kamani was appointed as the first Head of the Department. Presently Professor Arun Maithani is heading The Department. Paint and Coating Technologists’ Association (PACT) is a unique association consisting of qualified Paint Technologists (mainly graduated in Paint Technology from HBTI Kanpur), Researchers and Entrepreneurs across India and the World. PACT was founded by Lt. Prof. S. Chandra during the national seminar on “Current Status of Surface Coating Technology” held on November 15-16 ,1997, under the 52nd Annual Convention of OTAI at HBTI ,Kanpur. It was registered under societies’ Registration Act 21, 1860 at No. 1113 dated 7.10.1998. Currently Dr. S. C. Srivastava, (B.Tech. PT- 1979 Batch, and MD, K.Tech. India Ltd.) is serving as the Honarary President of PACT. Dr. P. K. Kamani is the Hony. Gen. Secretary. PACT is working in collaboration with Printing Ink Technologist Alumni (PITA) on following objects: To promote the cause of an all round, rational and economic development in the country, of Paints, Coatings and Allied Industries such as Printing Inks, Pigments and Dyes, Resins and Polymers, Packaging, Paint Application etc. by way of encouraging Research, Product Development, Training, Employment, Consultancy, Testing, Education and fostering exchange and disposal of knowledge and information in relevant fields among professionals and public.
