Overview

OVAD is an aquaculture firm based out of Bhubaneswar looking to revolutionize the seafood market by bettering variety, quality, freshness and pricing - while empowering fishermen and marginal farmers. Odisha is a major producer of prime quality seafood, yet unfortunately most of it is exported and we rarely get "export" quality at our local vendors. With the burst of aquaculture thousands of fishermen and hundreds of villages across the coastline are facing more and more difficulty competing. Our MPEDA certified farm, covering an area of over 70 acres sits right on the Bay of Bengal and is fed by the Kana Bansa river. We currently rotate our ponds across 3 crops and produce around 250MT/year; however our production capacity is a little over 750MT/year. Our outreach program - iOnPoverty - empowers farmers with the information and resources they need to pursue aquaculture in a sustainable and less capital intensive fashion. We believe that with the right systems in place they can achieve a 40% increase in profits!
