Ontario High School Ethics Bowl

Overview

American in origin, the Ethics Bowl has finally made its way to Canada, and is certainly taking the country by storm. The Ethics Bowl encourages students to develop skills that create create critical thinkers, competent citizens and ethical leaders. Thorough research, active engagement with the opposition, and orderly communication become the core values of competition. Ethics Bowl Participants do not engage with one another to 'win the argument'. Our approach fosters egalitarian solutions, humility, collaboration and a respect for the truth. During an ethics bowl, teams of high school students discuss ethical dilemmas taking place at the forefront of world politics. Such dilemmas might include: how we ought to deal with assisted-death, sexting, and gene editing. A diverse panel of judges ranging from university professors and Ph.D. students to lawyers and doctors evaluate the students' progress and provide written feedback. The winning team competes with the country's best at the national competition held in April. For more information about the ethics bowl, please visit our website!
