National Service Scheme NSS, a scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India. It was initiated in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969 with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. It is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in colleges and other institutions. NSS emphasizes that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. What does NSS Symbol symbolize The NSS symbol is based on wheel of rath of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind. The Red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood i.e., lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space. The NSS Unit of Zakir Husain Delhi College is one of the most active NSS Unit among the Colleges of Delhi University. The NSS Unit always adhere to the motto of NSS i.e., NOT ME BUT YOU. The NSS Unit always strive to serve the society in every possible way. Volunteers of NSS unit of Zakir Husain Delhi College are driven by zeal of contributing to the development of the society.
