New technologies and increasing diesel prices have increased the demand for battery electric mining vehicles, which offers many advantages over diesel that are beneficial to a mining company's bottom line. Reduce heat, zero emmisions, better working enviroment, reduce noise, reduced vibration, operating cost savings, reduced ventilation requirements/costs and no need to supply diesel underground - thus reducing possible oil & fuel spills underground. It is an all-rounder win-win for any demanding environment as this is required in the modern day mining. With battery electric mining vehicles, it is unavoidable that regular battery changes are needed. Although diesel engines must be fueled as well. Electric driver motors are much more energy efficient. Diesel engine energy efficiency is approx 30-35% and cannot be compared to the efficiency of electric motors which are about 90% efficient.
