Overview
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is Norway’s only institution of higher education for veterinarians with competence in two distinct academic fields: veterinary medicine and veterinary public health. On 01.01.2014 Norwegian School of Veterinary Sciences (NVH) was merged with University of Life Sciences (UMB) to become NMBU. First established in 1935, NMBU School of Veterinary Science is the only institution in Norway that is authorized to offer education and award professional and PhD degrees within the field of veterinary medicine and related sciences. The school is also responsible for the major part of all veterinary research conducted in the country. NMBU School of Veterinary Science has a student body of 470, including 80 doctoral students. Until August 2020 the main campus is based at Adamstuen in Oslo, but the school will be moved to brand new facilities in Ås as of this summer. The school also has a section for Small Ruminants based in Sandnes. In addition, the school runs several animal clinics serving patients in and around the Oslo area. It also incorporates the central clinical laboratory, the Section for Laboratory Animals, and various other diagnostic clinics and teaching and research stations.
