NORTON & SONS LIMITED

Overview

Norton & Sons was established in 1821 by Walter Norton as tailors to the Gentlemen of the City of London. Originally located on the Strand, in the 1860's Norton & Sons moved to Savile Row to join the ranks of tailors in what was to become the home of bespoke clothing. Norton & Sons has continued to thrive in the 20th century and in the latter half incorporated the celebrated Savile Row houses Hammond & Co, J. Hoare & Co, E. Tautz & Sons and Todhouse Reynard & Co. We are proud to have been tailors to the royal households of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Prussia, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom, and to three US Presidents. The firm gained eminence as a sporting tailor, making sharply cut garments for rugged and robust outdoorsmen. Men such as King Edward VII, Wilfred Thesiger and the young Winston Churchill, for whom we made everything from dinner suits to racing silks. With a long history of tailoring for clients bound for Africa, India and the near East, Norton & Sons developed an expertise in lightweight clothing; Lord Carnarvon wore Nortons when he opened Tutankhamen's tomb. Norton & Sons clothed many of the best dressed men of the last century, including Cary Grant, King George V, and Anthony J Drexel Biddle, the first man to be named America’s Best Dressed Man. The house enjoyed a long association with the famed British Couturier Hardy Amies and to this day Norton & Sons works closely with the fashion industry of London, New York, and Paris, cutting and sewing tailored pieces for a long list of celebrated designers. The Norton & Sons name has only ever been attached to the finest bespoke tailoring. We have no licences anywhere and have just one shop here at 16 Savile Row. Every suit that bears our name is cut and sewn by hand in our workrooms by our team of cutters and tailors.
