Overview

Northeast Art & Science Polytechnic (NE Polytech) is a public charter high school opening September 2018 at 229 13th Avenue NE, Minneapolis. The school will enroll 110 grade 9 students for the 2018-19 academic year and will add a new grade 9 class each year thereafter. NE Polytech is • designed to engage and motivate through authentic and meaningful learning experiences; • where learning is rigorous, relevant, and relational – preparing students for college, work and life; • small and personal by design; and • where students value and take ownership of their education and make meaningful contributions to their communities. NE Polytech curriculum is framed by six Experiential Learning Pathways, which integrate the arts, technical and core academic education - motivating students to think, design, build and learn. Graduates will be well-prepared for postsecondary in both high tech and liberal arts fields. NE Polytech students will be immersed in a multitude of experiential and hands-on learning opportunities such as robotics, urban agriculture, timber framing, textile design, World Peace Games, formulation chemistry and live performance. Design Features 1. Equity: NE Polytech will be intentionally diverse and inclusive - reflective of the communities it serves. 2. Personalization: Education is as much about relationships as it is about content. Teachers will practice a student-centered, inclusive approach to support and challenge each learner. 3. Authentic Work: Projects integrate hands and minds and incorporate inquiry across multiple disciplines, leading to the creation of meaningful and beautiful work. Students will connect their studies to the world through fieldwork, community service, internships and consultation with outside experts. 4. Collaborative Design: Teachers will collaborate to design curriculum and projects, lead professional development and participate in hiring while seeking student perspectives and experience in each of these areas.
