Overview

Nivans Initiative for Peace and Development (NIPAD) is a product of intense deliberation of some patriotic youths on the increasing rate of violence and developmental issues in Nigeria. Some of which include: terrorism, unemployment & underemployment, low standard of education, lack of entrepreneurial drive, low technological and IT skills, civic and anti social issues. Acknowledging the dangers they pose to the existence of stable communities and the state at large, NIPAD was conceived to promote programs that will enhance peace, stability and development in Nigeria. Hence, the goal of NIPAD is to create a peaceful world where development can thrive. The work of NIPAD is built on two basic principles: UNSCR 2250 & CEDAW for YOUTH. In December 2015 at its 7573rd meeting the UN Security Council adopted resolution 2250 which spotlighted the nexus between Youth, Peace and Security. This document identified youth as partners in preventing violence, countering violent extremism and building sustainable peace. Hence, youth have been earmarked as an important and invaluable stakeholder in promoting the culture of peace and development in Nigeria. Also the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is an international legal instrument that requires countries to eliminate discrimination against women and girls in all areas and promotes women’s and girls’ equal rights. CEDAW for Youth is a youth-friendly version of CEDAW that recognizes the important role that young women and men can play towards the actualization of the goal of CEDAW. Nivans Initiative for Peace and Development (NIPAD) is therefore a youth focused non- governmental organization that seeks to enhance peace and development in Nigeria. Its activities will be carried out through four core areas: CIVIC & LEADERSHIP EDUCATION, PEACE ADVOCACY, ENTREPRENEURSHIP (through vocational and skill acquisition training) and LITERACY.
