Overview

I will be graduating with an undergraduate degree in Microbiology, what next? This and many other questions that you may have are what we seek to give answers to at the NextGen Microbe Initiative. The NextGen Microbe Initiative is a not-for-profit organization designed with the overarching aim of promoting Microbiology in Nigeria. While doing the groundwork for this cause, it was noted that a significant portion of Microbiology students/graduates do not know the importance of the course, and have a myopic view of opportunities in the field. Hence, as a team of solution providers, we are set out to change the narratives of Microbiology students, by engaging tons of individuals, taking it one initiative at a time. Over the next one year, we hope to engage over 200 Microbiology students by providing them with quality information, and following up for significant progress. And in the next three years, we are looking at training over 2,000 Microbiology students across Nigerian universities, by assimilating them into our system and providing them with essential life, leadership, research, and many more relevant skills. Beyond presenting relevant and timely information to Microbiology students across Nigerian universities, we are looking to link them up with opportunities, promote networking, help in building their personal and professional brand, and provide them with clarity for the post-school season. Our values are summarized in IMPACT; Individuality, Mutual Respect, Personal & Professional Development, Action, Community, and Transformation. While current activities are being supported by the American Society for Microbiology, we are also open to collaborations with organizations that align with our goals and values.
