Overview

The NERO foundation is promoting the use of the cooperation mechanism "Joint Project " as defined in the 2009 Renewable energy Directive of the European Union. Based on the statistics, The Netherlands is not able to reach the mandatory renewable energy quota by 2020 and, while the responsible ministry still expects to reach the mandatory quota of 16% by 2023 the next target for sure is not possible to be reached, even not with all the efforts of the Dutch government to build huge wind power capacities in the North Sea. Not only the energy consumption in The Netherland is very hgh for such a small country, the economic growth also does not help Energy transition is not helping either because closing down fossil plants and transforming the mobile sector into electric driven vehicles only makes things more complicated. The increase of the use of RES was cancelled out by the economic growth bringing the RES share of the national energy consumption to 6.0%, an increase of only 0,1% compared to 2015. The NERO Foundation promotes a 1 Gigawatt on shore wind power as a European Joint Project with Romania as Host Country and The Netherlands as beneficiary in order to help The Netherlands to achieving the EU 20-20-20 Goal of 14% renewable Energy in 2020 at the lowest costs
