Dutch Genealogical Society

Overview

The Dutch Genealogical Society (NGV) is the largest genealogical society in the Netherlands. The society has about 8,200 members who assist each other with genealogical research. We are run entirely by volunteers and are housed in Weesp. The NGV has one of the largest Dutch genealogical collections available for research to members and non-members (for a fee). The collection contains church books (transcribed), reference works, microfiche, family advertisements, prayer cards, and a heraldic archive. To document genealogical data the NGV developed its own software (GensDataPro). For users of other software such as Aldfaer and Progen, we have separate help desks and courses. The society publishes the journal Gens Nostra, 6 times yearly. Gens Nostra contains countrywide genealogical news, discussions of sources, genealogies and pedigrees, and overviews of genealogical journals from around the world. Members can publish their own research results in Gens Nostra. Our Heraldic department also publishes its own periodical, the Heraldisch Tijdschrift (in Dutch only). The NGV has 27 regional branches spread across the Netherlands that also have genealogical collections. The regional branches organize many activities for members and non-members. There are regular meetings where interesting speakers are invited. Most branches have their own Facebook page. If you're searching for your Dutch Ancestry, you may need some help... From the NGV for instance!
