Overview

Nagaad Resins and Gums (Nagaad Gums) is an authentic Social Enterprise business that “works with the communities and for the communities”. It is the communities that have the greatest knowledge of the harvesting and handling of the resins and gums. Working with the communities means Nagaad Gums is the only company of its kind in the whole Eastern Africa region to handle and process to the final product a wide variety of resins and gums extracted from naturally growing and organic wild forest trees. Working for the communities means the communities are the real resin and gum producers and they benefit in multiple ways from a product that is locally collected and manufactured into a valuable commodity. Nagaad Gums, having inherited the business from its ancestors, has built on their knowledge to develop a sound business model. The Nagaad Gums business model uses ancient skills, and blends these with modern technologies to produce products of extraordinary value and quality. Nagaad Gums is proud to claim that the resins and gums are traceable from harvesting to the finished products. Nagaad Gums has developed a wide network and partnership amongst many communities that harvest the resins and gums and supply to the company. Using the ancient skills blended with modern technologies this has become an important source of income for many people. In return Nagaad Gums has been disseminating to the communities the long term benefits and value of the trees and plants and the need to protect this valuable resource to ensure an environmentally sustainable business model that can improve livelihoods and can provide income even in the harshest of years. With licenses to collect resins and gums from all regions of Eastern Africa, Nagaad Gums has already centralised its operations by constructing one processing factory in Kenya to serve the Eastern African region. The factory utilizes state of the art technologies and is equipped with in house EU accredited laboratory facilities
