Overview

The Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration (MRCSSI) provides social support networks for the diverse communities in London and surrounding areas in dealing with issues of integration, family conflict, domestic violence, and children in conflict with the law. We aim to build the capacity needed to overcome challenges that Muslim families may face at different stages in their lives. MRCSSI creates a Safe Place for families, couples, women, children and men by offering integrative and inter-cultural family violence prevention and intervention services. The MRCSSI has successfully engaged local Muslim and Arab community leaders as well as social service and justice agencies in working through complex family conflict and family violence issues that arise from stressors associated with immigration including pre-migration trauma as well as cultural differences. Our Goals: The centre’s main focus is to help ensure that professional support, guidance and advocacy are available to all members of the Muslim and Arabic communities at all times. We want to create a pathway of understanding between the Muslim and Canadian community. In doing so, we create a network of support for both communities. - Empowerment: Ability to make decisions with a view of different perspectives and long-term consequences. - Integration: Inclusion and full integration into society. - Networking: Creation of social and professional networks that will help tackle visible and invisible barriers. - Education: Awareness and capacity building, coaching advocacy.
