Overview

The Museum of East Dorset, managed by the Priest’s House Museum Trust, is the only Arts Council England Accredited Museum in East Dorset. The museum manages an Information Centre and is a key player in the cultural life of Wimborne and East Dorset. It is housed in a Grade II* listed town house dating from the 1500s and is located opposite the Minster church. One of the jewels in the area, it is an all-inclusive and accessible place for both visitors and volunteers. The museum’s collections cover the towns and rural villages of East Dorset and include significant artefacts, some of national importance. The museum serves communities across East Dorset, providing a wide range of outreach activities and a vibrant education and activity programmes which offers learning opportunities for visitors of all generations, from early years to adults. The Museum of East Dorset brand brings together the different elements which make up the visitor experience: the museum, its collections and community engagement programmes; the historic house and garden; the Information Centre; the Tea Room; the bookshop and the gift shop. The Hilda Coles Open Learning Centre is also available for private hire for events and workshops. There really is something for everyone at the Museum of East Dorset.
