Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea

Museums

Overview

Founded in 1911, the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea (MNAC) [National Museum of Contemporary Art] was one of the first museums in the world devoted to contemporary art. Installed in Chiado, at the very heart of Lisbon, and now also disseminated through the Google Art Project platform, MNAC is a privileged showcase of Portuguese culture and art. It attracts a growing number of national and foreign visitors and constitutes a pole of cultural and artistic attractiveness in Lisbon. A human scale museum, we offer continuous new views of the museum's collections that span from 1850 until today, by means of temporary exhibitions. We also provide a range of education activities, from group visits, to courses, debates, conferences and workshops. We work to make the museum a space of knowledge, welcoming different types of public, getting involved with schools, universities, researchers, curators, artists and other museums.
