Overview

Offering so much more than a tour, the Archaeological Museum of the Battle of Gergovia offers a living and interactive journey into the heart of the Gallic Wars and the legendary Battle of Gergovia fought between Julius Caesar and Vercingetorix. It also offers an opportunity to explore the natural and geological history of the Gergovie Plateau and the majestic surrounding landscapes, particularly the Chaîne des Puys and the Limagne Fault listed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Gergovia Museum is open to all and offers a museum exhibit that uses innovative and quality features that match a range of both scientific and recreational expectations. The space brings together graphics, models, archaeological artefacts and multimedia, and culminates in an audio-visual room that immerses the visitor in the atmosphere of the Battle. In addition to the 600 m² of fixed exhibition space, a temporary exhibition hall offers an opportunity to showcase the latest archaeological finds made on the plateau, and to present cultural and art exhibitions. Finally, tours of the inside of the museum are complemented by themed outdoor tours as well as educational workshops for school children.
