Mkono Poa Housing Cooperative Society

Investment Management

Overview

Mkono Poa is a housing cooperative society limited. As such its members are focused on matters of land and housing. Its founder members have come into terms with reality that owning a home in Kenya remains a pipe dream to majority of Kenyans especially the low income earners thanks to the ever increasing value of land. Its extremely difficult for a low income earner to get housing loan from a Kenyan bank especially if one does not have any collateral and even those who succeed get it at very high interest rate. The mortgage option is a no go zone as the providers target those in formal employment and even then the interest rates are high and the terms are rigid. Consequently owning a home for an ordinary low income earner remains just a pipe dream. The founders of Mkono Poa believe hey have a solution to this challenge which even the government of Kenya admits its near crisis levels. The average low income earner will find it extremely hard to raise ransom of Ksh. 300,000 to buy a piece of land but at Mkono Poa we believe with Ksh 100 daily contribution, low income earner is capable of gradually raising the required ksh. 300,000 to buy a plot. The many members of Mkono Poa making a minimum of Ksh. 100 daily contribution shall together buy land which they shall split into plots and avail them to members at a cost. The legacy of Mkono Poa is well defined by the slogan ” you need a place you can call home, the journey begins now”. With prudent management of its resources mkono poa is sure low income earner will be a proud owner of a plot at a cost of a fraction of the market price. Further the cooperative shall pay dividends from surplus realized from the sale of the excess plots to enable him/her develop the plot. Mkono is a Swahili name meaning hand while poa is a sheng name meaning safe. Therefore, Mkono Poa means safe hands which is a demonstration of its resolve to ensure safety of members funds in this long journey until each one has received his/her own
