MIRAGE Film Festival

Overview

MIRAGE is an international film festival dedicated to art from «reality» across forms of expression with carefully curated contributions. MIRAGE occupies a liminal space, blurring the boundaries between fiction and nonfiction, while simultaneously bridging disciplines. The festival seeks to strengthen the position of documentary film as an artistic form and embraces filmmakers and artists that, with courage and without compromise, push the boundaries of audiovisual storytelling rooted in «reality». MIRAGE Professionals is the film industry section and is the new meeting place for the Norwegian and international film industry, based in Oslo. MIRAGE Professionals highlight the craft of filmmaking and the filmmaking process, with a special focus on key functions such as editing, sound design, cinematography, and directing. With this unique focus, the festival aims to establish itself as a relevant international hub and destination for leading filmmakers and the creative artisans behind the collaborative art of cinema. The word "MIRAGE" originates from Latin; "mirari" meaning "to wonder at" or from French "mirer" meaning "to reflect or mirror." The term is most commonly used to describe an optical illusion or refraction of light that creates a reflection or distorted mirroring of the visible. MIRAGE plays on the idea of how the "reality" around us is experienced. What is subjective and what is objective? How do we perceive the world around us, and how can art contribute to reflecting it? Documentary film has a unique ability to make us see the world in new ways, from different perspectives, making us curious, fascinated, and inspired. In this way, we become more open in our encounters with other cultures, people, and the world around us. MIRAGE –2023 will be held in Oslo from October 11th - 15th.
