Overview

(company closed in 2016 - website since acquired by non-related party) milliPay was an innovative micropayment service, launched to save quality content on the web. Based on a patented, ultra-efficient cryptographic protocol, it managed convenient yet secure content access and could profitably monetise price points as low as EUR 0.001. After initial pilots with a paywall solution with German publishers, milliPay pivoted during its participation in Startupbootcamp Fintech (London) in 2014 towards video and music content monetisation. Major prospects as e.g. a global internet browser provider, a global social platform, top streaming portals, sport cable tv providers etc. showed interest in micropayments. For some of those milliPay built prototypes, as e.g. a 1-click payments within a social feed. However, it turned out that largely freemium business model-driven digital industries were not (yet?) ready for a complementing micropayment monetisation. Subscription-monetisers were afraid of cannibalisation, ad-monetisers were afraid of traffic loss or fully opposed to paid content. milliPay was closed end of 2016, after 6 years of a super-exciting roller coaster journey.
